Liverpool (Home team): Just when it felt as though Liverpool were starting to build some momentum, the frustrating has returned. On Saturday, the Reds were held to a mind numbingly uneventful goalless draw by Fulham. Considering the Cottagers kicked off pointless, having shipped goals left, right and centre so far, this was far from ideal.
Prior to this, Andoni Iraola had claimed his first two victories in charge, beating Ipswich and then Atlético Madrid in the Champions League. The Reds remain unbeaten this season, but three draws out of four in the league means this has not elicited much fanfare.
So, where should the Carabao Cup be on their list of priorities? Well, unlikely to challenge for the Premier League title, an elongated cup run will be an easy way for Iraola to win over supporters. Thus, even though a rotated team will be deployed, this is a match Liverpool should seriously try and win.
Tottenham Hotspur (Away team): As for Tottenham Hotspur, they'll be hoping a change of competition brings about a change of fortunes. Spurs are still yet to even score a Premier League goal this season, first defeated by Brentford and Newcastle, before back-to-back 0-0 draws with Nottingham Forest and Everton.
Roberto De Zerbi's side rank 18th in the division when it comes to both shots on target and expected goals, somehow managing to get worse, having spent over £300 million, than a side who finished 17th in back-to-back seasons.
The Lilywhites did at least score five in the previous round, hammering Charlton Athletic in North London, albeit two of the scorers that day have since been loaned out. Spurs were then handed this nightmare draw, not one any fan would have wanted, with Liverpool massive favourites to progress.

Andoni Iraola confirmed during his pre-match press conference that Giorgi Mamardashvili will be in goal, his first competitive minutes of the season. Joe Gomez will also see some action, albeit likely from the bench, having picked up an injury during pre-season.
Elsewhere, the head coach plans to rotate, albeit has limited scope to do so, with Giovanni Leoni, Conor Bradley, Federico Chiesa, and Hugo Ekitiké sidelined. Youngsters Trey Nyoni and Lewis Koumas are among the likely starters, with Jeremie Frimpong and Rio Ngumoha also coming in.
