Not to put a dampener on hopes for supporters, but Liverpool’s record at Anfield against their crosstown rivals is historically not the best. Liverpool (Home Side): It was a case of avoiding banana skins in Liverpool’s League Cup fixture against Sunderland in midweek – a feat they achieved, if not without a minor scare at going behind at half-time.
Nevertheless, Gareth Taylor’s side continue to show why they are being pinpointed as one of the form teams in the WSL. Against Manchester City, it took a 90th-minute own goal from Grace Fisk to cruelly hand the defending champions victory. Meanwhile, there were impressive showings against Tottenham and Charlton.
Vivien Endemann has been the star of the show on Merseyside. Since arriving from Wolfsburg in the summer, the German has caused endless problems for fullbacks down the right flank, with her efforts rewarded with four goal contributions in only three starts.
Everton (Away Side): The Toffees under Scott Phelan, and even their previous manager Brian Sorensen, are known for their rigid defensive structure. Setting up with two banks of four in front of one of the league’s best shot-stoppers, Courtney Brosnan, they challenge teams to break them down, and look to catch them out on the counter-attack.
As a result, in all of Everton’s three WSL matches this season, the team have not scored more than a single goal, but have acquired two wins – beating both Charlton and West Ham 1-0 in their last two fixtures.

Liverpool team news: The busy schedule over the last week has left Gareth Taylor with plenty of injury woes. Mao Itamura, Lucy Parry, and Mari Ward all remain sidelined as they continue to recover from injuries which sees them yet to feature this season. Meanwhile, Ceri Holland and Anna Josendal are also out for the weekend.
Despite this, Marie Höbinger was able to make her first start of the season against Sunderland in the League Cup after recovering from injury. Plus, Kirsty MacLean and Khiara Keating, who both missed the Reds’ 4-2 win over Sunderland, are back in contention for the derby.
Everton team news: As far as injuries go, Everton have been fairly fortunate. Regular rotation across all their matches means that they only have one player ruled out for Sunday’s grudge match.
Isabella Hobson, who received a rare start in the Toffees' League Cup victory over Birmingham City, was sadly removed from proceedings early through injury. Manager Scott Phelan has confirmed the fullback will not be available for an extended period.
Other than her, the team are full strength and well-rested after several rotational changes in midweek.
