As Liverpool were finding yet another unique way to throw away a positive result in the Premier League in their collapse against Leeds United at Elland Road, one player was distinctly absent from the fray, Mohamed Salah.
For the third time in a week, Arne Slot decided to leave the Egyptian out of his starting XI, and unlike a halftime entry in the midweek, there were no minutes to be had for our No. 11.
With that in mind, it was then that one of the best players in the history of this club went nuclear in a post-match discussion in the mixed zone with reporters.
What did Salah say?
A better question might be, what didn't he say? The megastar appears to be at wits end with how he has been handled in recent days.
"Now I'm sitting on the bench and I don't know why. It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That is how I am feeling. I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all the blame.""Mohamed Salah to reporters post-match
We're jumping right into the deep end with this, eh? It was a not so subtle shot from a player that normally operates in the most professional of manners. However, having seen his teammates squander yet another opportunity, he cannot be totally faulted for feeling the way he is.
Ibrahima Konate, who conceded the needless penalty that sprung life into the Leeds revival, continues to get start after start despite looking like a shell of the player he has been.
Salah did not stop there though. "I got a lot of promises in the summer and so far I am in the bench for three games, so I can't say they keep the promise."
This is clearly focused on his two-year big money extension that he signed over the summer where he ended speculation of a departure by tying himself to the club until 2027. It was seen as a coup for the club following another magnificent season from Salah in 2024/25.
Struggles on and off the pitch?
While Salah has clearly not been the best version of himself, he is hardly the only player that has fallen well short of expectations.
The aforementioned Konate is in that group as are players like Alexis Mac Allister, Alexander Isak, Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch.
All have had tough moments this season, but in Salah's view, they are not receiving nearly the same treatment that he is.
""I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager and all of a sudden, we don't have any relationship. I don't know why, but it seems to me, how I see it, that someone doesn't want me in the club.""Salah on his relationship with Arne Slot
Those are obviously very heavy accusations to publicly throw at your manager, but we don't see the behind-the-scenes interactions on a daily basis, so there could be some validity to this.
It would seem strange for Slot or the hierarchy at the club to disengage from one of the greatest players this club has ever seen, but crazier things have happened in football.
With his departure for AFCON now coming rapidly, Salah hinted at an uncertain future at Anfield following one of the most challenging weeks of his Reds career.
""Yesterday I said to (my parents), 'Come to the Brighton game.' I don't know if I am gong to play or not but I am going to enjoy it. In my head, I'm going to enjoy that game because I don't know what is going to happen now. I will be at Anfield to say goodbye to the fans and go the Africa cup. I don't know what is going to happen when I am there." "Mohamed Salah on his Liverpool future
The January transfer window suddenly takes on an entirely different tone and feel if Salah really does push for an exit or if Slot himself does the same.
Times were already tough for Liverpool, having won 2 of their last 10 league matches, but now having one of your biggest stars publicly lambasting your manager and the club as a whole is only going to amplify the strain around the club.
This is could get a lot worse before it gets better.
