3 players that Liverpool MUST try and sign this summer
Martin Zubimendi - CDM - Real Sociedad
The next player on our list might seem a little random but upon further examination, he might just be the perfect fit with Liverpool.
The Reds are looking at defensive midfielders but will only sanction a move if it is a clear upgrade over the incumbent No. 6, Wataru Endo.
Now, one might ask is Zubimendi a clear upgrade? Yes and no? The Joshua Kimmich, Rodri and Camavinga's of the world are probably untouchable. However, the 25-year old Spaniard is right below them in terms of skills and he would be a fine addition to the Reds.
He was a key player for a surprisingly feisty Sociedad squad this past season. He has the ability to dictate the tempo of a match from his deep lying position which is a rare gift indeed.
He is confident and strong on the ball and can turn, dribble or pass his way out of almost any danger one could fathom up. His passing range is really what elevates him to the next level as he has the ability to turn defense into offense in a flash.
With speedsters like Salah and Nunez raring to run up top, that will be a beautiful combination to see in full flight.
One reason he has not been seen much beyond club level is he sits behind Rodri on the Spain national team, one of the very few No. 6's ahead of him in the world.
Like Inacio, he has a €60 million release clause that would certainly look like a bargain given he is on the cusp of entering his prime as a player. He's valued at €50m so the clause is not a sizable jump. The last four seasons he has played 41, 47, 44 and 45 games respectively.
So, he is durable, composed, proven at the highest level, unlimited passing range, dictates tempo and is a smooth operator defensively. Get it done.
Rodrygo - RW - Real Madrid
For as gifted a player as Rodrygo is, he is still somehow underrated or overlooked in some circles because of the presence of Vini Jr and other stars in Madrid.
However, to his credit, at 23, he has become one of the best wingers in the world with a lethal combination of blistering pace and composure in the final third. Even with Mohamed Salah likely to stay, it is never a bad thing to inject world class talent into a side.
Luis Diaz could still potenitally move as well. Even if he doesn't, Rodrygo is a talent that any quality coach can find a home for in their Starting XI.
With Kylian Mbappe and the phenom Endrick joining Real next season there might be a case of too many mouths to feed. That somewhat contradicts what I said above, but there are a few more elite attacking options to pick from at Real.
Reports from Spain indicate Liverpool already had a £100m bid rejected for the winger as Real wants closer to £125m.
While predominantly deployed wide right, he has shown the ability to play anywhere in the attack. Versatile forwards are something that Slot will be a big fan of as he implements his flowing style.
He has exploded the last two seasons with 19 goals and 11 assists in 2022-23 before recording 17 goals and 9 assists in 2023-24. His trajectory says one of the worlds best and Liverpool would be foolish to not make that happen at Anfield.
