4 Reasons to be optimistic following Liverpool's first win under Arne Slot
3. Jota looks like a proper center-forward
Darwin Nunez did not make an appearance in this one while Cody Gakpo came on late on the left-wing. As a result, the center-forward role truly belonged to the Portuguese star on the day.
While his goal was taken with belief and class, his work-rate and elite attack positioning were on full display throughout well before that.
He interchanged with Salah, Luis Diaz and Dominik Szoboszlai very well throughout as he shifted from a false nine, to leading the line and everywhere in-between. This might not mean he is a locked in starter going forward, but he probably should be allowed to start on Matchday 2.
If he has another strong outing in that one, then it might become time to consider the options going forward. Nunez still has a huge role to play, but for now, Jota seems to have embraced life under Slot with full conviction.
His strong preseason and now Premier League opener should have him flying high.
