As has been the case against a lot of clubs in English football in recent years, Liverpool have had a lot of success against Aston Vila.

Today's exercise takes us down memory lane for the last 5 meetings between Liverpool and Aston Villa. It has been extreme one-way traffic in favor of the Anfield side.

As we look ahead to Monday's meeting, Jurgen Klopp's charges will have a lot of positive memories to fall back on if needed. Let's begin!

December 11, 2021 - Liverpool 1 Aston Villa 0 - Premier League

We start our journey in the winter of 2021, where the Reds featured a quite defensive side as they hosted Aston Villa at Anfield.

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane were the only true forwards in the Starting XI as the likes of Fabinho, Thiago and Jordan Henderson clogged the midfield. Stunningly, the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain started at CF in this match. Brutal to even imagine.

It was a dominant display by the Reds as they outshot their visitors 20-4 while holding 63% of the ball. In the end, it was a 67th minute penalty from Mohamed Salah that gave Liverpool the deserved win.

As the season was wrapping, Klopp took his men to Villa Park for a showdown with the Midlands side. It was an explosive start as goals from Douglas Luiz and Joel Matip in the first 6 minutes ensured a jumping start to things.

Naby Keita and Curtis Jones were patrolling the Reds midfield on the day as they dominated possession once again with 61% this time.

However, the shots, 17-9 were a bit closer but still favored Liverpool. Sadio Mane would score the winner when some signature Liverpool pressing would win the ball in the midfield before it was worked wide to Luis Diaz who put in a low-low cross that Mane stooped to head home.

It was back-to-back feisty performances from Aston Villa that still fell to the deserved winners on the day, Liverpool.

December 26, 2022 - Liverpool 3 Aston Villa 1 - Premier League

It was a belated Christmas present for Liverpool as they dispatched Villa 3-1 away in what was their 200th all-time meeting.

1st half goals from Salah and Virgil van Dijk extended a solid lead before Ollie Watkins brought one back at the hour mark. Fear not, as a young Spanish midfielder came off the bench to score his first goal for the club. Stefan Bajčetić announced his arrival in style in this game.

He became Liverpool's 3rd ever youngest goalscorer at 18 years and 65 days.

This result gave the Reds their first three match winning streak in the League all season up to that point as they were languishing in 6th.

May 20, 2023 - Liverpool 1 Aston Villa 1 - Premier League

We know about this one as it was the final home day of the season last campaign. Liverpool were all but secured in 5th as their late season run towards the top 4 would not be enough.

In this one, it was Aston Villa that led the majority of the way and it looked like they would get a famous victory at Anfield, but it was Roberto Firmino, playing in what would be his final home match as a Liverpool player, scoring the 89th minute equalizer.

It meant the Reds hit the century mark for goals in all comps for the 5th time in the previous 6 seasons.

Cody Gakpo had thought he scored earlier, but his effort was rule offside by VAR. Ollie Watkins had missed an earlier penalty, so on the day, the draw was fair.

We go way back to the beginning of this season for this one as it was Liverpool securing the comprehensive victory.

Goals from Dominik Szoboszlai and Salah sandwiched a Matty Cash own goal to complete the Reds romp. Szoboszlai became the first Hungarian to score for Liverpool.

This was also Jurgen Klopp's 300th Premier League game in charge of Liverpool as he joined an exclusive club with Arsene Wenger, Alex Ferguson and David Moyes.
