Alisson injury timeline revealed and the latest on Xabi Alonso
Liverpool enjoyed a outstanding second half to blow past Luton Town in the Premier League on Wednesday as they continue their march for a Premier League title. In the meantime, there are still a lot of injuries to update and news floating around the club.
Let's take a look at some of the more important updates you should know as the focus shifts to the League Cup Final on Sunday.
Alisson Becker will miss important matches
We finally got a prgonosis on the extent of Alisson's injury and it was not good news at all. The Brazilian will be out for at least another month as he recovers from his hamstring injury.
Brazil manager Dorival Junior believes that Alisson won't be fit until after the March international break which would mean he would miss the Final and a monumental meeting with Manchester City in the Premier League.
What's interesting about this is Liverpool have not laid out specifics for his return whereas the National Team are being quite definitive. However you look at it, Caoimhin Kelleher will be relied upon for the immediate future to shoulder the load.
Liverpool and Bayern Munich set to battle for Xabi Alonso
With the announcement that Thomas Tuchel will be leaving his post as the Manager of Bayern, immediately the news ramped up that the Bavarian giants had tabbed Alonso as their man.
While Liverpool have been seen as firm favorites to lure the Spaniard to Anfield, the addition of a European Giant into the fray is not a welcome development. For his part, Alonso has remained steadfast in his focus on Bayer Leverkusen as they continue to race towards glory, still yet to taste defeat this season.
He said; "I know that my goal is to be successful with my team. That is my job. We are currently in a good position and we want to keep at it. It is normal to have questions but it is not an issue for me."
There are conflicting reports that say Liverpool and he are in advanced talks while other sources say Bayern are now favorites. More clarity will come with time.
Jayden Danns yet another prospect to feature in 2023-24
The 18-year old striker came on as substitute in the win over Luton Town as he made his senior team debut. It was a wonderful moment for the young man as he continued a theme for the season under Jurgen Klopp, as academy players have been given much more run this term.
Eight players aged 19 or younger have played this season for the Reds first team. Players such as Ben Doak, Kaide Gordon, Luke Chambers, Danns and James McConnell among others.
That does not mention other youngsters such as 20-year old's Conor Bradley, Harvey Elliott and now 21-year old's Jarrell Quansah and Owen Beck.
Bradley, Elliott and Quansah in particular have been vitally important throughout the season. This flare for youth will only help the club going forward.
Conor Bradley full of praise for Luis Diaz
Bradley and Diaz have been essential players in recent times as Liverpool have become ravaged by injuries.
Both men have raised their games to meet the moment as the Reds march on without hesitation. While Bradley has stolen headlines with his mature performances from right-back, he was full of praise for Luis Diaz.
Bradley stated; "He's playing brilliantly at the moment. It's the worst thing for a full-back when someone can go down the line or come inside, it's a nightmare. The fact he can go on his left foot or his right is brilliant for us, and he causes teams all sorts of trouble."
