Liverpool are likely to sign a forward this summer in a wide position. Whoever they sign is likely to be a younger player for the future rather than someone who would be expected to have a short window at the club. Even just in the early days of June, several players have been linked to the club, and now yet another name emerges. Newcastle's Yankuba Minteh is the newest name on Liverpool's wide-forward shortlist this summer, and should he sign for the Reds, he would be reunited with Arne Slot.

Luke Edwards of The Telegraph reports that Liverpool are among the teams, including some across Europe, interested in Newcastle United's Gambian winger Yankuba Minteh. Various reports suggest Newcastle and other Premier League clubs will be forced to raise funds this summer to comply with the league's sustainability rules. Thus, Minteh could be sold to help fix their financial situation.

Liverpool's Arne Slot will have plenty of rapport with the 19-year-old forward, given that he coached him just this past season while managing Feyenoord. Minteh contributed 16 goals in the Eredivisie last season while only starting for about half of the games he was made available for selection.

Slot previously praised Minteh for being a player eager to be involved and for exceptional speed, noting that he is "incredibly fast." The report from The Telegraph suggests Newcastle United could be looking for £40m in an outbound transfer for Minteh, but that seems to be on the high end of the scale.

Minteh was born and raised in the Gambia and moved to Danish club Odense Boldklub in 2022 after multiple trials. Last summer, he signed with Newcastle United before his subsequent loan move to Feyenoord. The pacey winger also made his national debut for the Gambia in 2022. He now has two goals in six appearances as he looks to help his nation qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
