2. Virgil van Dijk - CB

The Captain takes home the second spot in these power rankings. It was a very solid first season with the armband for the towering Dutchman, but he will not be pleased how his side ended the year so poorly.

He did reestablish himself among the five best central defenders in the world once again and he will be a welcome calming presence under the new coach.

It's this stability and experience that contribute to him being so high on this list. It's no secret Liverpool are expected to invest in the defense this summer as they should.

Van Dijk for his part, even now firmly into his thirties, is the best defender we have by a wide margin. His tutelage of someone like Jarell Quansah could be important to him leaving a lasting legacy once he does stop.

For now, he is still so, so important and valuable to the club.
