8. Wataru Endo - CDM

Like Robertson, there is no clear-cut challenger for Endo's position right now in the squad. He was brought in last summer for a nominal fee, and he more than lived up to expectations.

It took him a bit of time to adapt to the physicality of the English game, but once he did, he became vitally important. He allowed players like Alexis Mac Allister to get forward more without concern of what would happen behind him.

Endo has no fear in his tackles as his numerous crunching finishes and plethora of yellow cards can attest.

That is something that cannot be overlooked in a system that encourages most players to fly forward whenever they can. Endo being the rock at the back allows this to happen with more conviction.

He is calm on the ball and showed the ability to score a delightful goal on occasion. The main thing going against him is his age, 31, and the fact that Liverpool are sure to bring in a high-profile name at the No. 6 spot eventually.
