It's road trip time for Arne Slot's Liverpool.
On July 23rd, Liverpool FC officially announced its travelling squad for its pre-season tour in the United States. Liverpool will open the tour by facing Real Betis on July 26th in Pittsburgh, Arsenal on July 31st in Philadelphia, and Manchester United in South Carolina on August 3rd. So, what's to take away from the squad announcement?
Everything to know about Liverpool's USA Tour preseason squad
Among the 28 selected is a host of academy players that Arne Slot will get a look at on tour. The biggest and perhaps most exciting inclusion is 2007-born Trey Nyoni, who the Reds signed from Wolves' academy last year. 2006-born centre-back Amara Nallo is also in the travelling squad.
There are also 11 senior players missing from the group, including captain Virgil van Dijk, as some players have extended breaks due to playing at the Euros and Copa America. It is expected that Alisson and Diogo Jota will eventually make the trip to the USA.
Notable academy omissions are Jayden Danns and Bobby Clark, who are both injured. Northern Ireland U19 international Kieran Morrison did not make the cut as he had only just returned from the U19 Euros, although he is expected to train with the first team this upcoming season.
Unsurprisingly, no players who have returned from loan have been left out of the squad, including the likes of Nat Phillips and Sepp van den Berg who will be further assesed by Arne Slot during pre-season in the United States.
A big question will be if a new player, or potentially new players, will be joining the squad on their trip to the US. Given the likelihood of Slot wanting to fully assess his options in some testy friendlies before confirming any transfer decisions, incoming transfers seem unlikely over the next couple of weeks.
