We've reached Friday which means one of the biggest weekends of football for awhile is now upon us. Taking a step back from the Euros and Copa America, we shift are focus to the biggest news headlines surrounding Liverpool Football Club to get you into the weekend.
A former Reds boss spurned the advances of a national team while an former Liverpool defender wants to see more action in the transfer market from Michael Edwards and his team.
Let's check out the biggest headlines you need to know on this Friday.
Klopp says 'No' to United States Men's National Team
When Jurgen Klopp told us he was taking a sabbatical from the sport to recharge and simply slow down, it was hard to believe at first.
However, now officially replaced by Arne Slot at Anfield, Klopp has rejected the chance to take the helm of the United States who just recently sacked Gregg Berhalter.
It appears that for now at least, Klopp is committed to his original plan of taking some time away and enjoying a well-earned holiday from the hectic football world. While a national team manager role would be a far less cumbersome schedule, he deemed it not the right time to accept.
The US Soccer Federation is not yet done with Klopp as he still sits high on their priority list to hire before the 2026 World Cup.
As of now, the "Normal One" won't be taking the helm anywhere and this should be respected until he gives a hint that he has the itch once again.
Glen Johnson says Liverpool needs to get active on transfers
Former Liverpool defender Johnson spoke to Paddy Power about how he thinks the Reds are approaching things this summer in the transfer market.
""This window feels like last year – they never go out and panic buy or come out of the traps and buy five or six players. They’re always calm and calculated, and I’m sure they have a shortlist of who they want to get. They need to sign a few players to refresh and replace a few old legs, and although it sounds quiet on the outside, I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of work going on behind the scenes.” "Glen Johnson to Paddy Power
While he is correct that Liverpool rarely puts themselves in a spot to sign someone just for the sake of getting a deal done, I agree the inactivity to date is somewhat surprising.
We're quickly closing in on the middle of July which means the transfer window has been open for a month and a half now with no action out of Anfield on players coming or going.
Some new blood is indeed required, but Slot would also like his departures to be settled as well so he can really begin shaping the team he wants.
Macca and Lucho to meet in Copa America Final
Argentina versus Colombia is what the world will see in the Copa finale, but us Reds fans see Alexis Mac Allister against Luis Diaz.
Mac Allister has been a consistent contributor for Argentina throughout this tournament as he contiues to hold down a spot in the starting midfield. He isn't asked to take over like the Reds needed at times, but his class has shown through on several occasions.
Diaz has not been at his very best, but he scored in the Quarterfinal thrashing of Panama and was a tour de force against Uruguay in the semis.
The Colombians have still not lost a match since early 2022 and it would not be a shock if they won here as well.
Diaz will be more important to how his nation does on Sunday but Mac Allister will still have his role to play in his own right. However you slice it, one Liverpool player is lifting a trophy and the other will be heartbroken.
It's a unique situation and one that I will be watching with eager eyes.
