Ever since Jurgen Klopp broke the news that he will be leaving the club at the end of this season, the debate on who should take over for the German has raged on. It looked for a time that Xabi Alonso was going to be the man to take the reigns at Anfield.

However, with his recent commitment to Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen, things were thrown wide open in the hunt for a Klopp successor.

There have since been some interesting developments involving two of the more popular names linked with the Liverpool job.

Brighton's Roberto De Zerbi not considered a favorite

It was widely assumed that De Zerbi, a man that has worked wonders at Brighton, getting them into Europe and pushing on from there, would be a tremendous candidate for the job.

His ability to work within a budget as well as developing and trusting the youngsters in his side all screamed like things that Michael Edwards and his staff would be all about.

As it turns out, Liverpool do not appear too keen on De Zerbi as he is now being considered an outsider for the Liverpool touchline. While the Brighton boss was one of the first names brought up by Liverpool to look into, things have not developed from there.

It appears De Zerbi will have suitors elsewhere such as Bayern Munich, but he won't be taking over at Liverpool starting next season.

La Liga giants making a push for Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim

Following Alonso's decision to stay where he is, Amorim instantly became the betting favorite to secure the Liverpool job.

He checks all the boxes as he's young, plays an attractive style, strong personality and has a history of winning trophies already. All of these things have meant he has flown up the priority list for Liverpool.

However, they are not the only big club to notice these things either as Barcelona have seemingly entered the Amorim sweepstakes. The Spanish giants are bidding farewell to their current manager, Xavi, at the end of this season.

He is at the top of Barcelona's list and Liverpool are in for a stern test if they want to make Amorim their new head man.

His coaching style would be a terrific fit for both clubs so it really might just come down to his preference. Time will tell where he truly wants to go.
