Liverpool have a host of players on international duty and Contracts are all the rage
Alas, we have reached the first pause in club football of the season as we have already hit the first international break of the new campaign.
Liverpool carry a lot of momentum into the break following three successive wins culminating with a fine performance at Old Trafford on Sunday. Arne Slot will be hoping the boys come back in one piece and can carry on the fine play we saw in the first few weeks.
As it is Wednesday, it's time to take stock of some of the news floating around the club and as we all know, there is always news to be shared.
Let's get into it!
Liverpool have 20 first team players called up for National Team's
It's a testament to the juggernaut and program that has been built at Liverpool over the years to have almost two full XI's being called up for their countries.
While it's obviously nerve-racking for the coaches and fans in terms of fitness, it shows the depth that is still here at the club in terms of player talent.
The Reds see their Dutch trio of Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch called up to the Netherlands side. It's especially a big deal for Gravenberch whose fine form has forced Ronald Koeman to potentially give him minutes, something he did not do at Euro 2024.
Caoimhin Kelleher gets the call from Republic of Ireland as does Conor Bradley with the Northern Irish. He will look to continue his good form for his nation.
Big names like Andy Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota, Alexis Mac Allister, Alisson and Luis Diaz are all off for playing for their respective national teams.
Newboy Federico Chiesa will not be linking up with Italy this cycle.
Contract talks for VVD, TAA and Salah to be a focus in next few months
It is not an encouraged business practice to go into a new season with perhaps your three most important players in contract limbo, but here we are.
For whatever reasons, the club have not deemed this to be a top priority. However, as the early results have shown, the above players are crucial to things now and in the future.
Mohamed Salah had strong words following the Manchester United win when he said he could only approach this season as if it were his last because the club have not yet begun new contract negotiations.
Per Fabrizio Romano, that might be changing soon as he reports Liverpool will use the next month or two to really deep dive into this issue.
It sounds like the club are taking the situation seriously and want to get i all resolved sooner than later.
