2. Ian Rush - Signed from Chester City in 1980 - €400K
When Liverpool signed an 18-year old Welshman from 2nd division side Chester City, it was not seen as a move that would change the fortunes of the club.
Well, 660 appearances and 346 goals later, here we are. Rush became one of the best players in the history of the club as he also bridged the gap between few different great Reds teams during his time at Anfield.
He is widely considered as the best goal scorer in club history, which is no small feat considering the list of great forwards that have played at Liverpool.
Consider this one a bit of shrewd business by the Reds.
