Mo Salah was back to his old self on Sunday, May 5th, as Liverpool held onto a 4-2 lead after Spurs attempted to mount a comeback late into the match. The Reds' goalscorers were Mo Salah, Andy Robertson, Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliott.

Mo Salah earns multiple records in Anfield thumping of Tottenham

Salah's opening goal came off a perfectly placed cross into the box from Cody Gakpo. The whipped-in ball found the Egyptian winger at the back post, and Salah made no mistake heading it past Vicario. There were loose claims for the play being offside, but it was not even close upon a second look.

The goal's significance comes in the context of the fixture itself, between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur. Mo Salah's match opener put the 31-year-old as the sole leader of goals scored by a Liverpool player against Tottenham in the Premier League with nine. He was originally joint-first alongside Roger Hunt, Ian Rush, and Sir Kenny Dalglish with eight.

As part of scoring his ninth goal, Salah has tied Harry Kane for the most goals scored in a fixture between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. From a career perspective, Salah also reached another impressive milestone. With an assist to go along with the goal, Salah has broken the 10+ goals & 10+ assists mark again for a third consecutive season, which has never been done before. He ties Wayne Rooney for the most 10+ goals and 10+ assists seasons, with five.

It is excellent to see Salah back at the level he can play at. After previously netting just one goal in six matches, Salah needed a game like this where he was as dominant as he could be. While there isn't anything to play for except pride to close out the season, it would be great to see Salah reach the 20-goal mark again.
