Though Liverpool temporarily shows no worry about its competitiveness as the 2024/25 season goes despite no additions during the summer window, the team is facing a critical situation about the contracts of their Big 3, Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent-Alexander Arnold, which will expire next summer.

While the team is winning matches under Arne Slot, FSG should start putting the happiness away from the table and concentrate on those deals that all expire next year. Who should leave or stay? Liverpool should have an answer as the season progresses for its sustainability.

Mo Salah

Two years ago, Salah became the highest-paid player in Liverpool’s history after signing a three-year contract with the club, worth £350,000 every week.

As one of the most important players contributing to Liverpool’s great success in the last decade, Salah and Liverpool both received a money-throwing trial from Saudi Arabia. A £150 million bid from Al Ittihad last year was reported that offers an important option for Salah in the summer of 2025.

Despite scoring 18 goals in the last PL season, Salah apparently underperformed in expected goals (xG) for the first time in his career with Liverpool, according to The Athletic.

However, using Salah’s prime standard to evaluate his current competitiveness might be too critical. With injuries, year 32 sounds like a downfall age for Salah as a forward, but he proved the audience wrong with ten assists last season, finishing his xG involvements only behind Man City’s Erling Haaland.

Since Arne Slot took over the team as a new manager, Salah seemed more adaptive in his new No.10 position in the Dutchman's system, playing a vital role in facilitating the team’s offense.

Salah’s consecutive goals against Ipswich and Brentford showed that he can still threaten the net from anywhere on the pitch. If Liverpool lost such a treasure on the pitch, the club would have to find a replacement with equivalent versatility.
