Last week, Van Dijk claimed he was calm about his contract situation. Liverpool had a wonderful opening of the season, and the club captain’s presence on the pitch is noteworthy. He won challenges and balls to ensure that no one could break through Liverpool’s defensive line.
Despite being 33, Van Dijk maintained his world-class level while teammates from the Netherlands and Liverpool relied on his size and toughness.
His age doesn’t stop him from attracting interest from other clubs, and even PL rivals are showing their intention.
Liverpool should put effort into retaining their Dutch captain, as it lacks defensive support. It’s reasonable to extend his contract, considering he is showing no sign of fading.
Van Dijk's departure would not only weaken Liverpool's defense but also impact the team's leadership and experience on the field.
Without finding a replacement, leaving van Dijk in this tricky contract situation is a worry. But I do optimistically believe that a short extension could be agreed between Van Dijk and Liverpool as he doesn’t show any interest in other clubs temporarily.
