Nunez scores 1000th goal and Konate a doubt: Liverpool News Round Up
It's been a busy week for the Reds, heading into the eve of a potentially season-defining clash with Manchester City. Following a convincing 5-1 win against Sparta Praha in the Europa League Round of 16, there are a few key headlines for Liverpool fans to mull over.
Konate a doubt for Manchester City showdown
Despite the hugely positive performances from Klopp's men in the first leg of the Europa League Round of 16, there remains one negative that came out of the thrashing, and that's Ibrahima Konate limping off early in the second half.
The French defender has been a rock-solid presence in the back line throughout the season, but if there was a nitpick towards his overall game, he tends to be injury-prone.
With manager Jurgen Klopp stating that Konate "was positive" but that the team ultimately made the right decision to pull him out of the game, and is currently awaiting the scan results with uncertainty.
It definitely couldn't have happened at a worse time, as the French international has formed a formidable partnership with Virgil van Dijk, and would be needed to help quell the attacking threat that Manchester City offer.
Núñez bags Liverpool's 1000th Klopp-era goal
Our Uruguayan put on a Man of the Match display against Sparta Praha, scoring two absolutely world class goals to help lead the Liverpool rout. The first of these goals, a long range screamer from the edge of the box, happened to be the 1000th goal scored in the Klopp era.
The fact that the club have scored so many throughout the German's career, really speaks to the progressive mentality that he has instilled over the years, as you rarely see this iteration of Liverpool be anywhere but on the front foot.
I would say here's to 1000 more goals, but obviously everyone knows the news. Here's hoping that we can add more to this landmark achievement and make Klopp's farewell a memorable one, as the season draws to a close.
Klopp calls on Anfield atmosphere
Well this certainly didn't need any drumming up, although the boss made it a point to touch up on it!
In his Friday press conference, Jurgen Klopp felt the need to praise the Anfield atmosphere, stating that;
"Anfield has from time to time been an influence on a game. Come on! The atmosphere our people can create, am I allowed to say it's second to none or are people offended by that? It's good, massive, energising. These are games you want to play, to watch. Anfield for us is a massive, massive factor. The people will help us."
With Sunday's showdown having massive league title ramifications, Liverpool will need every edge they can get. Throughout the years, Anfield has delivered some incredibly formidable atmospheres, and the boss is hoping for a rocking bear pit once again.
