Premier League Title Race: Biggest Matches in April
The Premier League Title race is rolling into a raucous April with Liverpool holding a 2-point lead over Arsenal and a 3-point lead over Manchester City. Below are the matches for each team in April with some ideas about which matches are most likely to shake things up atop the Premier League table.
Matchday 31, 2-4 April
3 April - Arsenal v Luton Town; Manchester City v Aston Villa
4 April - Liverpool v Sheffield United
This matchday certainly favors Arsenal and Liverpool, who play bottom of the table teams, so look for the Reds and the Gunners to secure three points each.
City will face an Aston Villa team hungry to secure a spot in the Champions League next season, but Pep Guardiola's squad can't afford to drop points on a matchday where Liverpool and Arsenal have such good opportunities to secure victories.
Matchday 32, 6-7 April
6 April - Crystal Palace v Manchester City; Brighton v Arsenal
7 April - Manchester United v Liverpool
If City loses any ground on Matchday 31, this will be a prime opportunity to makeup those points. The Reds will have a tough matchup against Man United, who would like nothing better than to upset the Reds' title hopes, and Arsenal have lost 3 of their last 5 matches in all competitions against Brighton.
Matchday 33, 13-15 April
13 April - Manchester City v Luton Town
14 April - Liverpool v Crystal Palace; Arsenal v Aston Villa
Expect City to come away with all three points against Luton Town while Arsenal will have a tough test against Aston Villa, who beat the Gunners in December. The Reds will host Palace fresh off their game against City the previous weekend, so Liverpool should see this as a favorable matchup to take three points.
Matchday 34, 20-21 April
20 April - Wolves v Arsenal
21 April - Fulham v Liverpool
Postponed - Tottenham v Man City
City's matchup is the toughest on paper, but it will have to be rescheduled as City takes on Chelsea in the FA Cup Semi-Finals on 20 April. Liverpool and Arsenal will have their hands full with dangerous mid-table teams, which presents a risk for either team to drop points.
Matchday 35, 27-28 April
27 April - West Ham v Liverpool
28 April - Tottenham v Arsenal; Nottingham Forest v Manchester City
Arsenal finish the month with a tough North London Derby, which could feature Arsenal in the midst of a title run and Spurs in the chase for a Champions League spot.
Liverpool clash with mid-table West Ham, but the Reds have beaten the Hammers soundly twice this season. City take on bottom of the table Nottingham Forest, so they will surely expect to take all three points from this matchday.
Overall, Arsenal faces the toughest road this month with only one match against teams not in the top 11. The Reds and City have equally tough schedules with a slate of games against teams ranging from the relegation zone to the top 4. All three title contenders will be involved in European competitions, so fatigue and conditioning will play a factor throughout.
Don't miss the Reds' first match of the month on Thursday as Jurgen Klopp's squad look to secure the first three points of April at home against Sheffield United.
