While it may not be the most historic fixture in the annals of English football, the Liverpool versus Tottenham series has still produced some magical moments and games over the years.

As a result, this fixture has seen a superb amount of world class players take part and leave their mark. That got me thinking, who are the crème de la crème between these two sides?

So I dug through the numbers, examined the impact the players had on matches, and here we are.

Check out the four best players in the history of the Liverpool-Tottenham fixture.

Honorable mentions: Steven Gerrard, Jamie Redknapp, Son Heung-Min, Luka Modric

4. John Barnes - 6 appearances with 4 goals and 3 assists

While Barnes did not feature a lot in this series, he certainly made the most of the time that was offered to him. 7 goal contributions from 6 matches is an extremely healthy return from the Reds legend.

One could imagine that if he had played more against Spurs that he would have easily soared up this list.

Even still, his numbers and impact in the short history that he was a part of was too hard to pass up. It was ruthless efficiency from the Liverpool icon. The one caveat going against Barnes was that he got 2 goals and 1 assist in his first game against Spurs on May 8, 1993.

As a result, his numbers look even better than they might, but having said that, there was no way that he could not make this list for his contributions and the impact he had on each match.

3. Robbie Fowler - 11 appearances with 6 goals and 2 assists

The legendary Fowler began his Liverpool career against Tottenham in the best way possible as he bagged 4 goals and 1 assist from his first four meetings against them.

From there, "God", slowed down but he was still a key piece in the Liverpool attack and even though his goal return dried up a bit, his importance to Liverpool during this fixture was clear as he played the full 90 minutes 9 consecutive meetings with our London foes.

It was only twice during 2001 that he started but did not finish the games out. However, he ended his Liverpool career against Tottenham as he began it, scoring goals.

Fowler secured 2 goals from his final 3 appearances versus Tottenham as a Liverpool player before he departed for Leeds.

2. Harry Kane - 17 appearances with 9 goals and 2 assists

While it may not be the most popular decision, Kane has a very healthy goal return in his career for Spurs when playing Liverpool.

His 9 goals in the series are tied for the most all-time which is worth noting considering the star power that this fixture has seen over the years.

Kane has spread his goals against the Reds over the years. He has not had a single run of dominance as it has been more of a constant threat and danger to whoever Liverpool trots out at the back. He has scored in 8 different games against Liverpool.

He had scored in back-to-back matches against Liverpool before he departed for Bayern Munich last summer. His role in this series is secure going forward.

1. Mohamed Salah - 14 appearances with 9 goals and 1 assist

Once again Salah tops a rankings list for greatness at Liverpool. Anybody else shocked? Because I am certainly not.

He is level with Kane for the most goals in this series while having played 3 fewer times in it. None of his nine were bigger than when he opened the scoring in the 2019 Champions League Final from the penalty spot.

That goal and his performance on the night, he was a menace, went a long way towards bumping him over Kane. Then there is this 90th minute magic as well...

Overall, there is no player that has had a more consistent and high-end impact in the history of this fixture than the one and only Mo Salah.
