Gary McAllister - 2000
On July 1st, 2000, Gary McAllister, 35, signed for Liverpool as a veteran midfield option. McAllister had scored 11 goals the previous Premier League season for Coventry City before his move to Anfield.
While his tenure at Liverpool was short, McAllister has a lasting memory with the club for his performances during the 2001 UEFA Cup Final. McAllister scored a penalty in an emphatic 5-4 win against Alaves in the final and assisted the opening Liverpool goal and Liverpool's fourth. His biggest moment, however, was in extra time when the Scottish midfielder's free-kick was deflected into the Alaves goal by an opposition player, giving the Reds the winner in the final.
During the 2000-01 season, McAllister won the League Cup, FA Cup, UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup. In the summer of 2001, he also won the Community Shield with Liverpool. In just 87 appearances, it's safe to say McAllister had a big impact with Liverpool on a free transfer.
