It all kicks off on Saturday for Liverpool in the Premier League.

Liverpool will start their Premier League campaign away from home. They will travel to Portman Road to face newly promoted Ipswich Town, with a 12:30 PM BST kick-off on August 17th. The match will signal Arne Slot's first competitive match as Liverpool boss, but there is a historical aspect to the opener, as it will be the Reds' first time facing the Tractor Boys in 22 years.

So, what are the storylines to pay attention to in Liverpool's opener against Ipswich Town?

While it was unlikely the Premier League schedule makers did it on purpose, it's an interesting fact nonetheless. On May 11th, 2002, Liverpool thrashed Ipswich Town 5-0 in the league, which included a John Arne Riise brace. The loss for Ipswich mathematically sealed their relegation to the Football League First Division, now known as the EFL Championship.

Kieran McKenna's Ipswich side will want to make a statement in their league opener, especially at home in front of their supporters. Despite the significant gaps in squad quality, it would not be the biggest surprise if the Reds have a nervy start in what will be expected to be an excellent atmosphere for the first Liverpool match of the campaign.

Perhaps there will be some historical revenge on the cards, too, given Liverpool's part in seeing Ipswich Town go down all those years ago.
