2. Scan upcoming free agent options

After promoting Jaros, the second most cost-effective option would be to sign a keeper expecting to become a free agent on June 30th. Good backup keepers can be found on the open market; look at how Stefan Ortega has done with Manchester City since making the free transfer move from Germany.

Barring massive shocks, none of the free-agent names will ever be big ones, but good value can be found there. Veteran Bundesliga keeper Koen Casteels will be leaving Wolfsburg next month and is available on a free transfer. The Belgium shot-stopper will be heading to the Euros, where it is not out of the question he is the starter, with Thibaut Courtois ruling himself out for the tournament in Germany.

Other names available on a free include former Arsenal and Brighton keeper Mathew Ryan, Fulham's Marek Rodak, and Alvaro Fernandez, who just kept 19 clean sheets in 41 matches with Huesca in the second tier of Spain.
