Liverpool have officially announced that Arne Slot will join the club on June 1st as their latest head coach following Jurgen Klopp's departure. These managerial appointments take time, and a thorough process took place in the case of Slot's appointment. So, what made Arne Slot the top candidate, as identified by Fenway Sports Group?
Three reasons why FSG named Arne Slot the next manager of Liverpool
1. The need to excite fans and energize players
The word "intense" has been ingrained into Jurgen Klopp's football philosophy. That's why assistant coach Pep Lijnders named his book Intensity to showcase how the club operated under Klopp.
As pointed out by Paul Joyce, Liverpool knew they could not go out on the managerial market and find Jurgen Klopp's replica. The type of manager Klopp was is not something that can be found so easily again and to try and find another Klopp would seriously give the club a headache. As The Times writes, it was reportedly imperative during their managerial search to find a manager whose style of football would excite supporters and players.
With Slot playing an intense, high-pressing system, like Klop.. the Dutch manager will fit like a glove for the sort of coach the club was searching for. Adjustments will be made tactically, and the formation itself will also likely change, but it was clear throughout the entire process that FSG did not want to abandon some of the major values that made Klopp successful at the club.
