A game of two midfields

Nothing quite exemplifies the quality gap between the teams, like the equator-wide gulf in midfield. United’s was lacklustre, Casemiro finally succumbing to Father Time, and too much hope hinged on Mainoo, who was already showing symptoms of United’s post-Ferguson curse.

The truth is they couldn’t match Liverpool’s zeal, strength, confidence, and skill.

Ryan Gravenberch is a new man under Arne Slot. He has taken to the double pivot as though that is where he should have been playing all along.

Dominik Szoboszlai ran them off the park and should have had his goal if he had just done the simple thing.

We know what an outstanding footballer Alexis Mac Allister is, and boy can you tell. Mac Allister shrugged Mainoo off the ball for goal three. Boys against men.

The midfield too, was helped out by the forwards tracking back and helping.
