3. Ryan Gravenberch looks ready to be the club's starting number six
While it was a shame that Liverpool ultimately could not sign Martin Zubimendi this summer, it was even more of a letdown that the club decided not to pursue an alternate target to Zubimendi.
Near the end of pre-season, it became clear that Arne Slot would not select a natural defensive midfielder for the starting holding spot when Ryan Gravenberch started to anchor the position. Brought up as a number eight throughout his professional career, the Dutch midfielder has been tasked with a big challenge ahead should Liverpool stay set on no new signings.
Gravenberch's first-half performance did not spark a lot of confidence in supporters, albeit most of the side looked off. However, a fantastic second-half performance from Gravenberch showed that he can, in fact, excel in the holding midfield position. He made multiple key tackles and was heavily involved in the build-up play that led to big chances for the Reds.
Even if it is "just Ipswich Town", it is important for Gravenberch to grow into the role and gain some much needed confidence to maintain the pace he will need to play at as he did in the second-half.
