Once again during this topsy-turvy campaign, Liverpool are coming into a match on the back of a frustrating performance in their previous outing.
This time around, as the Reds prepare for a Premier League clash with Tottenham on Sunday, they are doing so coming off another dismal defeat, this time in the Champions League as Galatasaray secured a 1-0 victory midweek.
The inconsistencies we have seen from Liverpool this season were unexpected at first in the early portion of the season, but now they just feel like par for the course for this team right now.
An impressive win is followed by a listless draw or a self-inflicted defeat, only to see an ugly win folow that. It's all rather exhausting to follow as a supporter, and even more so for those within the club.
With that context, I do think there are three very likely outcomes for the Reds when they face Spurs on Sunday. Let's see what those results could be.
1. An uninspiring Liverpool win
We've seen a lot of these from Arne Slot's men this season. On occasion, these kinds of results are how "titles are won", but not when you have languished between 5-8th in the table most of the season.
To fall in this category we are talking about the Reds conceding an ugly goal or two, while being listless in attack from open play but snaking some set-piece magic to get over the top.
Now at this stage, with the hunt for Champions League football so tight, I'll take points where we can get them. However, watching a crashing Tottenham side play with belief against us will be tough.

A normal operating Liverpool side would easily sweep aside this kind of opponent. See last April when we clinched the Premier League title following a 5-1 thrashing of Spurs at Anfield. Almost a year on, and ugly wins are the norm these days around Merseyside, if they come at all.
I see this one being the most likely outcome from Sunday's match because it's what we have seen the most of.
2. A lifeless or sloppy draw
While I would love to expect the lads to impose their will, which they for sure can, I think one of two things is more likely to happen; either Tottenham plays better than they have been or we play down to their relegation level.
As terrifying of a thought as that might be, it is an unfortunate reality for Liverpool this season. We've seen wins over Newcastle and Arsenal which have been great. Yet, the Reds have also been smashed by Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and drawn with newly promoted Sunderland.
The injuries have not helped to this point as it has been almost impossible to find a consistent rhythm amongst the players on a week to week and, game to game, basis.
A match in which the Reds dominate possession but do nothing with it could very much be on the cards for Sunday.
Even Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz have shown they cannot take every chance given to them, and with Mohamed Salah still off his game, predicting where goals can come from gets harder and harder.
A 0-0 or 1-1 result would be almost as horrible as defeat honestly.
3. A comfortable Liverpool win
I was tempted to put an ugly defeat here, but I still think the Reds mindset should be better off than whatever Spurs' players might have going at the moment.
We've also still seen flashes of the old and exciting Liverpool at various times this season, and coming against a club in such poor form could be just what the doctor ordered.
With a huge Champions League second leg tie midweek, Slot will be eager for his charges to put this match to bed early to get some rest in the legs, so that urgency could also drive the attack to come out on point from the off.

The Reds should have the firepower to score 2-3 goals, and if the defense can keep the blunders to a minimum, that should be enough to see a 3-1 or 2-0 win if all goes well.
While I can't make this the most likely outcome based on the frustration we have seen this season, the fact this is still on the table should at least be mildly encouraging.
This is of course the outcome I am hoping for, but if the the 2025/26 Liverpool squad has taught me anything, it's to expect the unexpected. Sunday will be interesting indeed.
