PSG president drops huge Bradley Barcola transfer hint after Liverpool "We Do It" talks

Liverpool are intensifying their search for Mohamed Salah replacement and are in current conversations with Paris Saint-Germain as they chase down their top summer target, Bradley Barcola.

Talks are officially underway, but the two European heavyweights remain world apart on valuation as the clock ticks down toward the summer deadline.

The Reds have made the French star their primary target in the closing stages of the transfer window. Yet, as it stands, a breakthrough remains frustratingly elusive with both clubs digging their heels in over a potential price tag.

The numbers being thrown around tell the whole story. PSG are holding out for a staggering fee reported to be as high as €170 million (£145.3m). Liverpool, meanwhile, are taking a far more measured approach, with reports suggesting they are prepared to offer in the region of €115 million (£98.3m).

Despite the hefty distance between those two figures, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi confirmed that dialogue between Anfield and Parc des Princes is active. Speaking to Canal+ following PSG’s 2-1 UEFA Super Cup victory over Aston Villa, Al-Khelaifi played his cards close to his chest.

“We’re working quietly, we don’t talk about it too much. We do it,” Al-Khelaifi explained. “All the players are important to us. I can’t say today whether he’s going to leave or not.”

When probed further on the massive gulf in valuations between the two sides, the PSG chief remained coy:

“We’ll see… the discussion is in negotiation.”

Barcola found himself stuck on the bench during PSG's Super Cup triumph against Villa at Salzburg’s Red Bull Arena.

It was a quiet night for the winger, who looked somewhat muted amidst the post-match celebrations. That came after goals from new forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue sealed the trophy, following 17-year-old Brian Madjo’s debut strike for Villa.

While Barcola only returned to pre-season training a few days ago, Luis Enrique’s team selection laid bare the sheer squad depth and competition at PSG:

• New arrival Maghnes Akliouche was given the nod on the right wing.
• Khvicha Kvaratskhelia took up his usual spot on the left flank.
• Desire Doue led the line up front, with Ousmane Dembele introduced at the break.
• Late on, left-back Lucas Beraldo and midfielder Senny Mayulu came on to replace Kvaratskhelia and Doue.

Neither Barcola nor 18-year-old right winger Ibrahim Mbaye featured which excited supporters about potential moves to Merseyside.

The transfer latest

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the situation via YouTube, revealing that "daily conversations" are taking place between Liverpool and the French champions.

However, PSG's demands could soar even higher if Liverpool broaden their scope.

According to Romano, PSG could demand "almost €200 million (£171m)" if the Reds attempt to pull off a sensational double raid for both Barcola and Mbaye.

“Liverpool’s plan is to sign two wingers by the end of the window, especially if Cody Gakpo goes to Tottenham,” Romano explained.

It is far from guaranteed that Liverpool will push through a deal for both Paris starlets. Barcola remains the undisputed priority at Anfield, with the Reds keeping their options open and assessing several alternative targets as deadline day approaches.

Whether Liverpool match PSG's steep price tag or hold out for a compromise, this looks set to be one of the defining transfer sagas of the window.
