Ranking Liverpool's best U21 players this season and their 1st team chances
The youth system at Liverpool Football Club is one of the best in not only England, but Europe for that matter. In recent years we have put significant resources into the Academy as well as bringing in some of the brightest young talents in the sport today.
That has added up to some very good football on display on more than one occasion and there are a few youngsters this season that have performed very well at the U21 level to this point.
Today, we are going to take a look at who have been some of the best performers at the youth level before we then take a look into what their futures could be at the club. Let's get right into it.
3. Kieran Morrison - MF
The 18-year old Northern Irishman is one of the most exciting attacking talents on offer for Liverpool at this current time.
He has made 8 appearances for Liverpool U21 in Premier League 2 and has recorded 4 assists to go along with finding the net once himself. He has also netted a pair of goals in the UEFA Youth League as well.
His 0.57 Assists per 90 minutes is tops on the squad among qualified players. His attacking prowess and confidence are both tools that suit him well at this level as we have clearly seen. He's more of a creator for the U21's, but he definitely has goals in his tool bag.
If we are projecting out into the future, I think he has a solid chance to break into the Senior team in a few years time.
Right now, there is too much attacking and forward depth but in a season or two, a rotation spot could be primed and ready for him.
He has a very bright future if he stays on his current trajectory, so Morrison is a name to remember as we go into the future. He could join Conor Bradley as important pieces in the future of Northern Ireland football.
2. Ranel Young - RW
The teenager born in Huddersfield has notched 5 goals and 1 assist across both the Premier League 2 and UEFA Youth League.
He has been in the Liverpool youth setup for a few years now but this is truly his first breakout season at the youth level as he has been one of the Reds' most dangerous attacking options out wide thus far this campaign.
He is a very exciting talent out wide, not unlike what we saw from Ben Doak just a few years ago as well. Young still has so much room to grow so seeing these early returns is a bonus for the coaches.
Liverpool U21 have several dynamic attacking options but the 18-year old Englishman has shown he brings an extra juice to the attack that not many can at this level of competition.
He's probably not close to breaking into the first team barring an absolute injury crisis of epic proportions, but he also is creating a very solid foundation for himself at the club that he can build off over the next few years.
He's going to be shining star at this level until that time though.
1. Amara Nallo - DF
People forget that Nallo is still only 17, which is even more impressive to hear when you learn that he has become a staple in the center of the Liverpool U21 defense this season.
Nallo has the rare offensive traits that not every defender gets blessed with as he has scored in both the Premier League 2 and UEFA Youth League this season.
He's probably one of the most reliable defenders for Barry Lewtas to call upon and he has risen to the occasion more than once.
When we map out his future at the club, it could be feasible to see him take the Jarell Quansah route and make a debut young and establish himself soon thereafter. The defensive hierarchy is going to change over the next few seasons and Nallo should be positioned to take advantage of the change.
Overall, Nallo has been playing great this season and he should keep getting better and we could see him at the highest level sooner than you may expect.
