1. Virgil van Dijk
Did you really doubt who was going to sit on top of these rankings? Virgil van Dijk was massively important for the Saints, but he has gone on to become the very best in the world at what he does for Liverpool.
His acquisition in January 2017 for a then record fee of £75 million looks like an absolute bargain in hindsight.
He was the anchor that was needed in the heart of defense to take Klopp's exciting sides to the next level in all aspects. He can direct traffic better than anyone while his calm demeanor allows him to thrive in the highest of pressure moments.
He reads the game so very well that he is usually 2-3 steps ahead of the attacker or he knows exactly what they want and he does everything in his tool bag to stop it from happening.
This is to say nothing of his elite long-range passing that has helped spring several counterattacks over the years. His cross-field diagonal balls are still a beauty to watch.
Now in his second season as the Liverpool Captain, there is little denying that van Dijk is the best of the best not only in the world, but when it comes to these rankings as well.
Thanks again, Saints, thanks again.
