4. Xabi Alonso - £10.7 million
We have another Spaniard on the list as the new soon-to-be Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso comes in.
Alonso also came to Liverpool by way of La Liga for a modest fee after starring for Real Sociedad as a teenager and carrying them into the Champions League.
He was a balanced midfielder that could do anything the manager asked of him and he did it at such a high level while making it look like nothing. He famously was one of the scorers in the Miracle in Istanbul as he was a key figure in that entire run.

His long range strikes became something of a calling card as he pulled them out at crucial moments to truly put his skills on the ball on full display for the world to see.
Following his triumph at Euro 2008 with Spain. Alonso came back to Anfield a refreshed player as he was a driving force in the side all season long. He would be signed by Real Madrid the following summer, but for 3X what Liverpool paid for him.
He wasn't at Anfield for a decade, but he was one of the club's best players during his 210 total appearances while hoisting 3 trophies, including the Champions League.
