2. Arne Slot officially announced, May 20th
On the topic of key decisions of senior figures at Liverpool, no decision was more important this year than that of who would succeed Jurgen Klopp in the dugout.
On May 20th, one day after Klopp’s emotional final match in charge of Liverpool, the Reds formally announced that they had settled on then-Feyenoord manager Arne Slot to take up the enormous challenge.
That Slot had never coached a single minute of top flight football outside of the Netherlands has proved no hurdle whatsoever thus far.

After over eight years of Klopp’s “heavy metal,” style of play, Liverpool’s transition to Slot’s more patient and pragmatic brand of football has been seamless.
Slot has undoubtedly benefited from the foundations his predecessor left and the quality of his squad, but deserves enormous credit for how swiftly and to this point, successfully his side have been able to implement his ideas on the pitch.
Liverpool not only enjoyed immense success, but stability under Klopp as, the 2022/2023 season aside, his players were consistently able to carry out his heavy pressing, high tempo brand of football and at the very least mount formidable pushes for England and Europe’s greatest prizes.
Liverpool’s ability to maintain that stability and status as one of the continent’s premier football institutions weighed heavily on whether the club would make the right selection on its next manager.
In the seven months since, the feeling has grown exponentially around Anfield that the club got that selection spot on with Slot.
