Liverpool's record in 2026 through 12 matches currently stands at, six wins, four draws, and two defeats.

Performances have undoubtedly improved since the new year, but on several occasions there hasn't been a good result to show for it.

I'd describe Liverpool's 2026 so far as frustrating, rather than poor. Below, I've ranked the team's defence, midfield, attack, manager, and Anfield's support.

Defence:

There was a period of time this season when it felt like Liverpool were conceding three goals every game, having done so against PSV, Manchester City, Nottingham Forest, and Leeds United, all in short succession.

Since Christmas it has been a lot more solid at the back. The Reds have kept clean sheets against Leeds, Arsenal, Marseille, Qarabag, Sunderland, and Brighton.

I would argue the singular goals Newcastle and Burnley scored were sucker punches (especially Burnley's), and, well, there is one person to blame for the Barnsley goal, and it's not a defender.

The only poor defensive display was against Bournemouth where they conceded a lot of xG compared to other games this season (2.30), but Arne Slot's side were without Ibou Konate, and Joe Gomez went off injured early (and the Cherries scored while he was off the pitch), which led to the 5 '10" Wataru Endo filling in. Bournemouth ultimately won the match from a long throw.

On Konate, his improved form has possibly been the most crucial factor behind the Reds' solidified backline.

His resilience since losing his father has been remarkable. He's back to his best, imposing self, and that is imperative at the moment, considering Liverpool have no natural right backs fit at the moment (apart from the inexperienced Calvin Ramsay).

Milos Kerkez has also hit his stride and is improving every match. He was outstanding against Manchester City.

There still seems to be a tendency to panic at the end of games in general and that's probably their biggest downfall, but Liverpool's xGA remains the third best in the league behind Arsenal and Man City, and considering the horrendous luck with injuries and absences, that's an impressive record.

My grade: 7/10
