Salah's contract is the news he and the club needed for the remainder of the season

After what felt like an eternity of waiting, the Mo Salah contract saga finally came to an end when the club announced that the Egyptian King would remain at Anfield for another two seasons on Friday.

Whatever the final fee turns out to be once reported, it's hard to argue that Salah's new deal isn't well deserved— since coming to the Premier League in 2017, no player has more league goals (182) and goal involvements (267) than him.

Rising to the Occasion

Salah’s performance in a contract year has only underscored how essential he is to Liverpool’s success.

His staggering 44 goal contributions this season (compared to 25 from Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, the next closest in the league) have powered the Reds to what looks like an inevitable title triumph, holding a commanding 11-point lead over second-place Arsenal with seven games remaining.

But amid the excitement of a Premier League legend staying put and a title all but secured, there are signs that Salah’s new deal may have been exactly what he and the club needed to not just to cross this season's finish line, but to sprint through it.

Liverpool's performances in both their Champions League Round of 16 loss to PSG and their Carabao Cup Final defeat vs. Newcastle were hugely disappointing—Salah's play included.

The Reds' typically reliable big-game player registered no goal contributions across these three matches, as Liverpool exited two cup competitions in the span of five days.

The Reds got back on track in the Premier League with a 1–0 win in the Merseyside Derby following that disappointing run, but quickly stumbled again in a shocking 3–2 loss to Fulham—just their second league defeat of the season.

Salah remained quiet in both matches again, failing to register a goal or assist.

Considering the torrid form he’s shown all season, Salah’s recent dip in form can fairly be called a mini-slump.

And while Liverpool remain massive favorites to win the one competition they're still alive in, his contract coronation should serve as a timely wake-up call—for both the club and their No. 11—to finish the season with the same passion and intensity they started it with.

Personal Accolades

On an individual level, Salah is just three goal contributions away from tying Alan Shearer and Andy Cole's joint record of 47 in a single Premier League season.

Given how much Salah values chasing and breaking records, solidifying his future with the club should provide the perfect motivation to refocus on his pursuit of greatness.

Salah's performances during the run-in should also serve as a reminder to fans who were skeptical about keeping him that he’s more than worth his compensation, proving he’ll be ready to keep delivering at an elite level for at least two more seasons.

As for the club, a strong finish to the season with the contract drama behind them should send a clear message to the rest of the league: that they will be the team to catch next year too by aiming to extend their lead over the competition as much as possible.

Even if Liverpool are to win the league with subpar play for the rest of the year, it's not about how you start— it's about how you finish.

Particularly with Arsenal soaring in Europe—crushing PSV 9–3 on aggregate in the Round of 16 and stunning Real Madrid 3–0 in the first leg of the quarter-finals—Liverpool must display that domestic dominance still runs through Anfield, and the Gunners will need to raise their game in England if they hope to dethrone the Reds next campaign.

With Salah officially signed, Virgil van Dijk’s new deal reportedly imminent, and Trent Alexander-Arnold seemingly on his way out, Liverpool’s long-running contract commotion is all but resolved.

Now, it’s time for Salah and the Reds to shift their full focus from the boardroom to the pitch—ready to prove he’s the player loyal Kopites believe in, and that this is the club worthy of lifting England’s biggest prize.
