Liverpool have been mostly winning all their games this season. Well, they were until they faced Crystal Palace again, a team they lost to for the second time in just over a month, and now they face Galatasaray in the Champions League.
Liverpool were able to find a winner at the death in every single game till that point, and it seemed like they had done so with Federico Chiesa again, until Palace scored their second in stoppage time to snatch that one singular point and make it three for themselves.
The biggest talking point about the season in general has been the form of new superstar signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. It was a huge transfer fee for a player who was performing really well for Leverkusen throughout his time there.
Since joining the Reds, though, he has not been able to play the same way he used to, and it is bothering fans a lot.
Many players, like Florian Wirtz, just need a bit of time
It may seem like it has been a very, very long time since the player had a good game. Wirtz did look great in pre-season, but ever since the season has started, his form has taken a dip.
But guess what? It has only been a month. Wirtz has only been around for a month or two so, and while his performances have not pleased any Liverpool fan so far, it is just the start.
There are some players who are able to make the jump from one league to another almost seamlessly. They do not need any transition period. They do not need any time to settle at the new club, in a new league, in a new country. They are just eager to start playing good football.
For some, it is different. The environments matter. The new system matters. The transition period matters. Wirtz is of that mould more than he is of the former, and it is understandable.
Wirtz did not become a superstar at Leverkusen overnight. And for those who think he may only be good enough for the Bundesliga and no other league, well, he was incredible against every team he played in the Europa League in 2023-24 and the Champions League in 2024-25. The player is ridiculously talented; he just needs that little bit of time to get used to his surroundings.
Take it like this: even Kylian Mbappe, a brilliant player who was widely touted as the best in the world, took a few months to settle at Real Madrid before he started showing his true colors. It is completely normal, and Wirtz’s time will come at Liverpool.
