Stefan Bajcetic makes feelings clear on Anfield exit with poignant social media post

Amid all the excitement around Bradley Barcola's arrival, as well as all the other deadline day rumours and speculation, one departure from Liverpool seemingly went under the radar. This is the fact that Stefan Bajčetić's time on Merseyside is now over.

The midfield has joined Celta Fortuna, who are Celta de Vigo's B team, for around £1 million, which could potentially rise to £1.3 million; we will explain why in just a second. Following the move, the the 21 year old took to Instagram on Thursday morning to post a heartfelt message to Liverpool fans.

"Dear Liverpool fans. I never planed to write a goodbye message, because I was where I always wanted to be.The love you have gave me throughout the 5 years I spent in Liverpool has been incredible, it’s easy to show love when things go in the right direction, but as you know it hasn’t always been the case with me, and you have been there for me at all times.I fought all the injuries and adversities with the motivation of paying back the love and trust you showed me over this period, but unfortunately I couldn’t.... The memories I’ve had with this club will stay with me forever and I’m glad I will be able to tell my kids I played in the best club in England... Thank you for everything from the bottom of my heart, me and my family will always be Reds. "

The midfield was born and raised in Vigo, given that his Serbian father Srđan was playing for Celta at the time. Thus, this move is a return home for the 21 year old. Being available though has been Bajčetić's biggest barrier in recent times. His final Liverpool appearance came on 5 May 2024, seeing 25 minutes during a 4-2 victory over Tottenham at Anfield. When he first broke into the team in 2022/23, an unknown teenager at the time, he appeared talented enough to be Liverpool's starting midfield for the next decade and a half. His time on Merseyside peaked by scoring at Villa Park on Boxing Day 2022 during a 3-1 win just after the World Cup break.

Since then, he has been loaned out twice. Firstly, he spent six months at RB Salzburg, the Austrian side chosen because they had just appointed Pepijn Lijnders manager. He made 19 appearances for die Roten Bullen, but only eight were starts, so was recalled in January 2025 and sent to Las Palmas instead.

Bajčetić quickly established himself as a key figure in the Canary Islands, starting 12 of 14 La Liga matches, scoring during the battle of the Islands as his side were beaten 3-1 by Mallorca at Son Moix. However, in the third last game of the season, the youngster suffered a serious hamstring injury against Sevilla at Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.

That was 474 days ago, and Bajčetić still has not played in any football match since, suffering countless set backs, halting his progress at such a key time for development. Thus, his Liverpool career did not pan out how anyone had envisaged, so fans surely wish Bajčetić all the best in Vigo.
