Liverpool endured a difficult campaign and were heavily criticized for their meagre attempt at defending their Premier League title.

They did have bad luck with injuries, big signings flopped, and Mohamed Salah caused drama. However, the Reds still managed to finish fifth and secure Champions League soccer.

It looks like the Reds will have to stick with Arne Slot for the foreseeable future, especially with Xabi Alonso becoming the new Chelsea boss. Slot has some great players at his disposal and needs to build his team around these men.

  • Florian Wirtz

Alonso was wanted by many fans to be the next Liverpool manager, not just because he is a club legend. The now Chelsea manager had Florian Wirtz at Bayer Leverkusen when they won the Bundesliga. Alonso would have been able to get the best out of Wirtz, but now Slot must do this.

Wirtz is only 23 and contracted to Liverpool until 2030. The player was not as prolific as he was in Germany this season. In total for the Reds, he has scored seven goals with 10 assists in 49 games. Slot has used him on the left and right wing, but he is far more effective playing through the middle. Slot must play him in the attacking midfield role at all times to get the best out of him.

  • Alexander Isak

Alexander Isak was Liverpool's biggest flop of the players they signed last summer. He cost them a British record of ÂŁ125 million, but he only managed three Premier League goals in 14 games.

Isak's campaign was disrupted by injuries, but he is only 26 and has time to prove doubters at Anfield wrong. With Hugo Ekitike potentially out for the rest of the year with his Achilles problem, Isak has the chance to live up to his astronomical price tag.

  • Ryan Gravenberch

The defensive midfielder has been a key player for the Reds this season. He is also only 24 and is contracted to the Reds until 2030. His strengths are his build-up play and snuffing out attacks. However, he still managed six goals with six assists in 50 games in all competitions this season.

Ryan Gravenberch's consistency, ability to stay fit, and willingness to drop into a center-back role when needed make him a real asset to Slot's side. He can control the midfield and allow Dominik Szobozlai and or Alexis Mac Allister to get forward.
