Arne Slot and his questionable substitutions

Slot is clearly still struggling with how to use his squad. Whilst injuries have admittedly not helped lately, but another questionable few subs contributed to another stuttering performances.

Liverpool fans have already been baffled this year, with the strange changes made against Leeds on New Year's Day.

Jeremie Frimpong was the game's stand out player and yet was hooked when chasing a goal late on, either after his fellow right-back Conor Bradley had already been taken off a few minutes before.

Frimpong's admission from the Fulham starting eleven was strange enough, especially as he went on to collect another assist in stoppage time. He was also brought on for Florian Wirtz, who had scored and was looking lively in attack.

The Defensive woes that have started to return

Liverpool looked to have settled into a more defensively sound unit after the first meeting with Leeds in December, even if that did mean being less exciting in attack.

Back to back clean sheets followed against Inter and Brighton but the only clean sheet in the four games since, was in the goalless draw with Leeds earlier in the week.

The manner of the goals shipped of late will be the main cause for concern however. Wolves and Tottenham both scored incredibly sloppy set-piece goals before the turn of the year and both of Fulham's goals for today were disappointing for different reasons.

Former Red Harry Wilson took advantage of a very skewered Liverpool offside trap, with Virgil van Dijk a yard behind his teammates and playing the Welshman onside.

Whilst Harrison Reed produced a once in a lifetime strike, it will still go down as a goal from a corner and many were questioning why not one single Liverpool player got anywhere near the Fulham midfielder.

Personnel in January

It would have seemed crazy back in August to suggest Liverpool would need to spend more money in January but for all the money spent, Liverpool's squad looks worryingly thin.

Today's bench included two goalkeepers, two full backs and two youngsters with just a single start between them all season and indeed, only three were trusted to be used.

One quick solution could be the recall of Harvey Elliott but rumours suggest it would need payment from Aston Villa to terminate, which may prove to be difficult. Other transfer rumours suggest another move for Marc Guehi or even a surprise bid for former Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

It would seem incredibly damaging to not go for at least one defender this month, especially with Geo Leoni confirmed to miss the rest of the season. Alexander Isak's injury and Salah's unhappiness may also require attacking reinforcements.
