Lewis Koumas returned to Liverpool this summer following a successful loan period at Hull City, who he helped achieve their quest of promotion.
The Welshman made 17 appearances for the Tigers, scoring three goals as they made their return to the Premier League after 10 years.
For any young player, fighting for promotion is an experience that can aid in their development tremendously. And for Koumas it was no different.
Speaking to the official club website, he said:
"It was a really tough experience to start with but it ended up turning into a really good one. I learned a lot from Hull and obviously we got promoted, which is a massive achievement. So, yeah, it was a great season in the end."
Despite finishing 6th in the league, the Tigers fought tooth and nail in what was a promotion campaign mired by controversey surrounding Southampton, yet they prevailed.
Liverpool's number 67 added that the Wembley experience is one he won't be forgetting any time soon:
"It was unbelievable. When Oli [McBurnie] put it over the line, it was just an unbelievable moment for the club and now they’re in the Premier League."
Hull have floated around the Championship spots over the last 10 years, and were relegated to League 1 in the 2019-20 season, but immediately bounced back up.
Koumas joined the Tigers on the 30th of January 2026, scoring on his debut a day later in a 1-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers.
He also scored against Derby and Liverpool's next pre-season opponents Wrexham, as the Tigers fought their way to promotion.

The youngster will be hoping to continue his good start to pre-season after he scored in Liverpool's 4-2 victory over Sunderland in Nashville yesterday.
The forward came on for Rio Ngumoha at half-time and will give Iraola a headache after an impressive performance, where he beat his man frequently and hardly put a foot wrong.
He was involved with Dominik Szoboszlai's wonderstrike, and the Hungarian then turned provider after playing a simple pass to Koumas, who took a nice touch and finished the chance well.
Fans should be excited about what's to come with the Welshman, as he typifies what Liverpool fans expect from a young forward; he's fearless, relentless and hard-working. And as we saw against Sunderland, that will bring goals and opportunities his way.
