Liverpool completed one of the early surprises of the summer transfer window when they swooped in at the eleventh hour to secure Spanish winger Victor Muñoz just before he could sign with Newcastle United.

The £34 million deal has been received positively by most around the game, as the Spain international is still only 22-years old and coming off a fine season in La Liga with Osasuna where he produced eight goal contributions from the wing.

While currently in North America with Spain for the World Cup where he has been rehabbing a minor injury, the Spaniard was able to speak to Spanish outlet EFE for the first time as a Liverpool player.

Victor Muñoz speaks highly of Anfield

The reputation of Liverpool and its historic ground Anfield, are legendary in the footballing world. That was once again on full display in some of the remarks made by Muñoz here.

He said; "It's something special to be able to play there at Anfield, and both me and my family had absolutely no doubts. The truth is it's a chapter for my future that could be really special. I'm really looking forward to it."

That is exactly what every Reds fan wanted to hear from our first marquee signing of the window, I'm sure.

If he is able to take the next level in his game under the tutelage of fellow countryman and new coach Andoni Iraola, it's entirely possible that Muñoz will be contributing to those special nights at Anfield sooner than later.

He's an exciting player that has very good technical skill on the ball and while he has some natural flair to his game, he also loves to attack directly and get going as soon as he can.

Liverpool fans and club ownership will be expecting a turnaround next season following the debacle that was 2025/26, and if Muñoz can settle quickly when he officially arrives, this could prove to be savvy business.

You can't say no to Liverpool

As previously mentioned and reported by several outlets, the 22-year old was on the verge of becoming a Newcastle player, which by all accounts, would not have been a bad landing spot for him.

However, for as popular and appealing as the Magpies and St. James Park are, because they are, they don't quite matchup with the magnitude that is Liverpool Football Club. Muñoz touched on this idea as well.

He said; "The truth is it all happened very quickly but, well, when an opportunity like this comes along, you just can't let it slip by."

That indicates that the player might not have even known of the Reds interest until the very moment they came in, which just makes the work of Richard Hughes and his team here even more impressive.

Muñoz would also portay some maturity for a young player making such a career altering move when he spoke about where his mind is right now.

He told EFE; "But if I'm honest with you, right now my eyes are completely set on things here [at the World Cup], on trying to get fit as soon as possible."

I actually love that response and it tells you a lot about where his priorities are at. He wants to maximize every moment he can in this game, and with Spain touted to go on a deep run, Muñoz might have a role to play if he can get healthy once again.

While it is still early days and the lad has not even arrived in England yet, new signing Victor Muñoz is saying all the right things before he does. The next step will be letting some of his play speak for him.
