Liverpool look to maintain their good form in the Champions League on Wednesday when they faceoff with PSV in the next fixture in the league phase of the competition.

While it's not an extensive history, the Reds do have a solid track record against all clubs from the Netherlands over the years, and the coming match will allow Arne Slot and his charges to keep the good times going.

Looking back at previous encounters can at least give a little insight into things we can expect to see come kickoff during midweek.

Let's take a look at what Liverpool's history against Dutch opponents could mean for the coming clash with PSV in the Champions League.

Strong overall record

Liverpool have played competitive fixtures against six Dutch clubs. Those clubs are: PSV, Ajax, Utrecht, Vitesse and AZ Alkmaar.

Overall, the Reds have played teams from the Netherlands 19 times, and their overall record is a sterling 12W-5D-2L across all competitions. One of those two defeats came against PSV in the final match of last season's UCL league phase in what was a dead rubber for Slot's squad, who fell 3-2.

However, they still own a superb 5-1-1 all-time record against Wednesday's opponents, which could mean the Reds should still be confident despite their current run of poor form in recent weeks.

In fact, with last season's meeting removed, PSV have only found the net two times against Liverpool in their other six meetings. This could be just what the doctor ordered for a strained and struggling defense

In recent years, Liverpool are unbeaten against the other giants of Dutch football, Ajax, having won four from four since a 2020/21 meeting.

Expect lots of goals

We all know that the idea of "Total Football" originated in the Netherlands, so it is almost fitting that the majority of Liverpool's fixtures against these clubs have resulted in a lot of shots finding the back of the net.

They have scored 14 goals from their seven matches against PSV, having scored at least two goals in five of those seven matchups.

They have scored multiple goals in matches against the remaining Dutch foes five times from 12 opportunities.

Even with their current attacking prowess in such a depressed state, history tells us that there are goals to be had when the action begins on Wednesday night.

A comprehensive multi-goal margin is absolutely on the cards for possible outcomes of this match.

The top scorers in the Liverpool-PSV fixture are Peter Crouch and Steven Gerrard, who each scored three goals against 'Rood-witten'. Gerrard also has an assist to his tally in four matches against this club.

Good omens?

While it's not a history that spans decades with several memorable matches, things usually go well for Liverpool when they face Dutch opposition.

The numbers suggest, even on poor form, Liverpool should enter this match as favorites, and a multiple goal outcome is well within the scope of reality.

Add in the slight motivation of several players wanting to avenge last years defeat, albeit a redundant one, and Slot could see his side have at least one night of reprieve from the perils of Premier League football.

PSV will go down swinging as is their want, but the data tells us if the Reds are on, this one should not be very close come the full-time whistle.
