Alongside the confirmed season long loan deal for Barcelona defender Ronald Araújo, the biggest news surrounding Liverpool this week is that owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) are selling a stake in the club.

The consortium is being led by Amit Bhatia, the businessman and former QPR shareholder is being joined by Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin who will reportedly acquire around 30–33% of Liverpool.

Sky Sports state FSG are preparing to make an announcement about a transaction as soon as this week which comes one month after the owners confirmed that the group had "expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club".

Bezos’ fortune is reportedly worth around $257BN whilst Saverin’s fortune sits at around $35BN. Bhatia, who is pushing ahead with the deal, is the son-in-law of steel billionaire Lakshmi Mittal who is worth around $31.3BN.

FSG took control of Liverpool in 2010 and paid around £300m for the Reds but as both John W. Henry, Principal Owner and Tom Werner, Chairman enter their late 70s, they are keen to sell off a chunk of their ownership.

Such investment in Liverpool will reportedly value the club at $6BN or £4.4BN, making it one of richest clubs on the planet. In the Premier League, the Reds would rank second alongside Manchester United and Manchester City as clubs with the highest valuation.

As per figures from Forbes, the updated list would look like this:

Manchester United F.C. £4.8BN

Liverpool £4.4BN

Manchester City F.C. £4BN+

Arsenal F.C. £3BN+

Tottenham Hotspur F.C. £2.5–3BN

Chelsea F.C. £2.5–3BN

Outside of the Premier League, Liverpool would come in at 4th worldwide, behind United (£5.58BN) of course but also Spanish giants Barcelona (£5.81BN) and Real Madrid who are worth around £7.36BN. Despite not finishing top the table, Liverpool still sit well above the likes of Arsenal (£4.19BN), Manchester City (£4.26BN), Chelsea (£3.26BN) and European champions Paris Saint-Germain (£4.5BN).

FSG, who also own baseball team the Boston Red Sox, sold a minority stake in Liverpool to investment firm Dynasty in 2023 valuing it at more than $4.5BN.

This latest deal to such huge investment tycoons shows how far the side have come since the American investors bought the side for around £300M back in 2010.

Despite criticism since their arrival, FSG have lifted the club back to their perch and now the club is worth more than ever and is attracting some of the world's richest investors.

An update from the club should come over the next week, before the club kick off their Premier League campaign against Newcastle United on the 23rd of August.
