As we get closer and closer to the next edition of Liverpool versus Manchester City, the nerves will begin to rage for a lot of people.

Over the last near decade, this fixture has produced some of the best football and exciting matches that have come out of England during that time. We've seen stars show up and show out, for both sides in this match as well.

Looking at the coming Premier League meeting on Sunday when the Citizens make the trip to Anfield for a huge league clash, I wanted to look at which Liverpool players could play a huge role if Arne Slot wants to see his side come out with three points.

With that in mind, let's take a look at the three players that could spark a Reds runaway on Sunday against Manchester City.

Ryan Gravenberch

While the Dutchman has largely been good this season, he has not consistently hit the same heights we saw from last season when he looked like one of the best defensive midfielders in the world.

If Liverpool want to get a big win out of this, Gravenberch will need to be at is absolute best. When he is on, he reads the game so well, and his ability to cut out or intercept any pass, is a huge weapon to have sitting in front of your defense.

When playing a side like City, having someone that can sit and clean up the mess from side-to-side, does so much for the rest of the squad.

Midfielders like Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Co. can have further license to get forward and put more pressure on Pep's men.

Our No. 38 is also so calm on the ball, and his turn, and half-turn are always so enjoyable to watch, and it's from a situation like that, where Gravenberch can get Liverpool from defense to offense in a flash.

He will need to be sharp for ball retention, counter opportunities and shutting down the fearsome City attack at every turn.

Ibrahima Konate

Speaking of shutting down their attack, insert the Frenchman. Konate is coming off an imperious and stunning display of mental fortitude against Newcastle United over the weekend, and he will have to be close to those levels again on Sunday.

Obviously, the elephant in the room whenever you discuss Man City's attack is Erling Haaland. Konate does have the physical gifts to make his life difficult, it's just very hard to do that sometimes, for any defender.

Having said that, I think Ibou should have a lot of confidence right now, and while he will still be playing with a heavy heart, getting lost in his work could be just what he needs to kick on.

He has the pace and power to keep up with any facet of City's attack, so he will just need to eliminate all of the simple mistakes that we've seen creep into his game at various points this season.

City will get chances to stretch their legs and run at the Liverpool defense, and this is where Konate needs to shine, as he will be tasked with covering the slower and older Virgil van Dijk in these moments.

His ball-playing ability will also be needed to found a way around the Citizens initial and secondary press' throughout the match.

Florian Wirtz

There might not be a more in-form player in the Premier League right now than the creative Germany international star.

He's found his consistent goal scoring touch, while still retaining his world class creative abilities for players like Hugo Ekitike, Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo.

In a match like this, at Anfield, with the energy we are going to see, I expect this to be end-to-end, which means Wirtz will have all kinds of opportunities to create for himself and others.

Much like we have seen Mohamed Salah dominate this fixture since joining Liverpool, Wirtz could be primed for a true breakthrough showing against one of the best in England and Europe. He'll be refreshed and raring to make magic happen.

He's also an underrated presser at the front, so his energy and work rate will be essential to making City's lives difficult if they try to play out of the back.

His dynamic dribbling ability should allow him to get after their defense and put them on the back foot, a place they are not normal going to either.

I would not be shocked to see a goal or an assist from Wirtz in this one, as he will be one of the most influential players if Liverpool are to get a win from this meeting.
