Will this be another summer of big spending for Liverpool? Well, supporters certainly hope so, as does new head coach Andoni Iraola, who reiterated his desire to bolster the squad during his introductory press conference on Monday, stating "we need more players... the club are working on this". Well, it would appear as though big things are happening behind the scenes, but not just at AXA.
Liverpool have hit a major transfer roadblock though as Paris Saint Germain have made a definitive decision on Bradley Barcola's future amid heavy interest from Anfield.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported this on Tuesday though:
"Barcola is a top target since last summer, and Liverpool still want the player and are waiting to understand what is going to happen in terms of the financial package... for sure, the interest is strong in Bradley Barcola. "Fabrizio Romano
He also describes the Frenchman as "not untouchable" at Paris Saint-Germain, asserting that no talks over a new contract are ongoing. Romano has previously reported that PSG will be willing to sell Barcola if they manage to sign Yan Diomandé from RB Leipzig and Maghnes Akliouche of Monaco, which feels feasible. Well, could the Ligue 1 champions be moving closer to both of those deals?
Well, as reported by Graeme Bailey of Team Talk, les Parisiens "remain confident" of signing Diomandé, who has made it clear he only wants to move to PSG. The Ivorian's current club RB Leipzig are willing to sell, but are hoping to have the teenager loaned back to Saxony for next season, with this proposal under discussion.
Meantime, Bailey adds that Akliouche's move from Monaco is "imminent", suggesting that everything might just be falling into place for Barcola to be squeezed out. So, why are Liverpool targeting the 23 year old Frenchman, and why should supporters be excited about the potential of him swapping the Champs-Élysées for Merseyside?
Bradley Barcola would be a game-changing signing for Liverpool

Since joining PSG from Ligue 1 rivals Olympique Lyonnais for €45 million three summers ago, Barcola has established himself as one of the most dangerous wingers on the planet.

The statistics support the idea that Barcola was at his peak during the 2024/25 season as Paris Saint-Germain won the Champions League for the very first time. He racked up 21 goals and 21 assists across all competitions, including netting against Manchester City, putting up frighteningly good numbers.
Last season, he did endure something of a regression, second fiddle to Désiré Doué in Luis Enrique's XI for big matches, but he still accumulated 20 goal contributions, notably on target home and away as les Rouge-et-Bleu annihilated Chelsea 8-2 on aggregate. So now, could he be terrorising Premier League defences on a more regular basis come August?
Well, Barcola's future is unlikely to be decided especially quickly. He is still out in North America ahead of Saturday's World Cup third-place play-off, following their 2-0 defeat in the Semi Final against Spain on Tuesday.
He has featured in all seven of les Bleus' matches to date, three off the bench, scoring during victories over Senegal and Sweden, both at MetLife Stadium, but won't be returning to New Jersey this weekend.
Also, as already alluded to, PSG are reluctant to sell such a highly-rated talent albeit, considering he has just two years remaining on his contract, now may be the time to cash in. David Ornstein of the Athletic has reported that he is valued at around £116 million, but the Reds know they will need to pay top dollar as they search for the heir to Mohamed Salah's goal-scoring wide-attacker throne.
Jérémy Jacquet and Víctor Muñoz appear to be shrewd additions, but Liverpool supporters are craving a statement signing to reinforce the idea that they will be genuine Premier League title challengers. Well, Barcola may well prove to be that man, even if they'll be made to wait to find out one way or another.
