Liverpool is considering a first-team slot to Trey Nyoni, after his recent performances in pre-season. He'd replace Tyler Morton, who recently left.
Liverpool has gone through a mixed bag of results in pre-season. However, as always, fans have taken pre-season results with a pinch of salt. The main takeaway is that the squad is together and, without a shadow of a doubt, youngsters have made a name for themselves.
One of those names is Trey Nyoni, who has been a breath of fresh air in pre-season. The teenage midfielder has been a standout performer, immediately making a name for himself against Preston earlier this summer.
Liverpool consider a worthy first team promotion
According to a report from Paul Joyce, Liverpool is now considering handing a first-team slot to Trey Nyoni. There is a place available after Tyler Morton left to join Lyon, and Liverpool has been impressed by Nyoni's pre-season display.
In his own words, Joyce said: "As Tyler Morton leaves, Trey Nyoni, 18, is now being considered as a full-time member of Liverpool’s first team set-up following a strong pre-season which continued against Athletic Bilbao."
While it's not yet confirmed, it's hardly surprising that the Liverpool decision-makers have an eye on Nyoni. He certainly deserves the chance to be involved with the first team this season.
Trey Nyoni will be a slow implementation
The competition for places in the midfield is incredibly high. For the first time in a long while, Liverpool has some of the best midfielders in the world at their disposal, and there's no shortage of options after Florian Wirtz hit the ground running in pre-season.
So, Nyoni won't be naive enough to think he can walk into the Liverpool starting eleven. This isn't expected of him, but instead, promoting him to the first team is done with an eye on the future.
It's likely that Nyoni will be given minutes in cup competitions or towards the end of buried Premier League games to continue his development, before being given a serious starting slot later down the line. Either way, experience around first team members will prove pivotal to Nyoni's development.
