Jürgen Klopp spoke to the press today ahead of Liverpool’s game against Arsenal on Sunday. His comments leave little room for hope of new Liverpool transfers.

Liverpool fans are looking for signs of activity. With only 6 days left of the transfer window there is much to be done in a short space of time if the club are going to bring in the two or three players that we need to improve our squad.

As manager Jürgen Klopp addressed the media ahead of Sunday’s game with Arsenal he spoke about the state of the current squad. As James Pearce reports on Twitter:

"“Until Aug 31 a lot of things are really possible, in and out. Origi wasn’t in the squad – that shows how big the quality here is. Everyone thought: ‘Robertson? From Hull? But he showed up against Palace. Milner in midfield is like a transfer.”"

Note the positive that Klopp highlights: Origi wasn’t in the CL squad; Robertson is better than people thought; Milner in midfield is like a new transfer.

This is the hope we are meant to take into the last 6 days of the transfer window. Not a new center back or dynamic midfielder but that Robertson is pretty good for a Hull player. Get in!

The comments about Milner being like a new player is particularly galling. This trend of saying players we already own are ‘like a new signing’ is ridiculous. If we keep Coutinho this window the same phrase will be used to describe the Brazilian too.

I get the positivity and the belief in the current players. But at the bare minimum we need another defender. Lovren put in another substandard performance against Hoffenheim and was culpable for both of their goals. Not buying a new center back and the ongoing situation with Mamadou Sakho is horrible mismanagement of our defensive personnel.

With time running out, and positive spin comments coming from the manager, hope is fading that there will be any new Liverpool transfers by September 1st.
