Liverpool gave updates on the fitness of a number of first team players ahead of Sunday’s game with Arsenal. Here is the latest Liverpool injury news:

We are only 48 hours away from our third Premier League game of the season. Arsenal are traveling to Anfield for a huge Sunday clash. There were a number of injury updates today after the Hoffenheim game addressing some long-term injuries and new niggles. Here is the latest:

Emre Can

The German midfielder went down early against Hoffenheim with a twisted ankle before shaking it off and leading the Reds with two goals. His performance showed no signs of injury on Wednesday but was taken off for James Milner anyway. He is still suffering some discomfort with the ankle but there was no regression on Thursday. He should be available on Sunday.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

The young Englishman came away from the Hoffenheim game with a dead leg. He was replaced by Joe Gomez after 65 minutes in that game. Manager Jurgen Klopp described the injury as ‘not too serious’ indicating he should be fit for the Arsenal game. If he is still struggling then Gomez should take his place as he did against Crystal Palace on Saturday. This may be a move Klopp would have made anyway to give the side a stronger defensive base for the threat of Arsenal’s attack.

Nathaniel Clyne

Clyne is continuing to recover from the back problems that have kept out of the friendlies and the early games of the season. There is no hurry to rush the Englishman back with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez both performing admirably in his stead. There is no clear timetable for his return.

Philippe Coutinho

Coutinho has missed all of the season’s games with back soreness and an illness. He has not trained in recent weeks while he has been agitating for a move to Barcelona. He won’t be available for the Arsenal game but will head off on international duty. This further indicating his injury problems have been part of a pseudo-strike to force a move to the Catalonians.
