Rumors tonight from Sky that Liverpool are in talks with Bayern Munich for Renato Sanches have been shot down as lies from Spain to force Coutinho deal.
Barely a few hours after Liverpool’s sensational victory against Arsenal and the rumor mill is in full swing. Liverpool fans are on the look out for news after Klopp states that new signings will make him ‘very happy’. Cue Sky Kaveh.
Sky reporter Kaveh Solhekol has made a name for himself this summer as a purveyor of new transfer information. Some of it is true. Much of it is the same old rumors and speculation. In this tweet about Renato Sanches most of the information pertains to Monaco. The French club are showing interest and the player’s agent is at their game.
But it is not Monaco that gets retweets, likes and clicks. Liverpool get that kind of traffic.
It was not long before this rumor was being discredited by people closer to Anfield sources than Sky Italy. The actual rumor did not start in Italy, Sky were merely sharing it, but came from Spain. The same Spanish press that are desperate to engineer Philippe Coutinho’s move to Barcelona.
This rumor appears to be part of the Catalan press trying to create a scenario where Liverpool fans would accept the Brazilian leaving. Many fans would take a big bid right now. It is the owners they need to convince. The current performance of the side coupled with Coutinho’s attitude have given much of the fanbase cause to take a huge Barcelona offer.
Liverpool do have legitimate interest in a handful of players before the window closes. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Virgil van Dijk are both wanted by Klopp. There is also a rumor interest in Thomas Lemar from Monaco tonight. That move is unlikely to happen with only 4 days left and the French champions unwilling to sell.
