The Liverpool attack is on fire, but how will Daniel Sturridge fit in? What role will he play in the 2017/18 season for the Reds?

In an ideal world, the departure of Luis Suarez after the 2013-2014 season would have been met with the coinciding rise of Daniel Sturridge as Liverpool’s main man.

But unfortunately, an ideal world this is not. Sturridge has played only 2,506 minutes over the last three Premier League seasons. And he now finds himself as the odd man out of a dangerous Liverpool squad.

However, when healthy, the left-footed Englishman is still a force to be reckoned with. Sturridge has managed to score 15 Premier League goals in his limited playing time over the last three seasons.

The question is though, will Jürgen Klopp give Sturridge a real shot at making the starting eleven this season?

It would have appeared the answer was yes after Klopp decided to drop new signing Mohamed Salah in favor of Sturridge against Crystal Palace. But many believed that decision was made due to Liverpool playing a game mid-week at Hoffenheim.

The front three of Mané, Firmino and Salah all started again this past Wednesday against the German opponents. Therefore, some believed Sturridge would get another shot at cracking the eleven in this week’s home game against Arsenal.

That, of course, was not the case. And if you watched the game or saw the result, you now know Klopp’s decision to stick with his preferred trio more than paid off.

And a 4-0 drubbing of Arsenal certainly won’t inspire the gaffer to make any changes to Liverpool’s front three.
